Wileyfox was a British smartphone manufacturer that established itself in the mobile industry in 2015. The company positioned itself as a challenger to established rivals by aiming to offer devices that were more affordable without sacrificing build quality or performance. Its business model relied on the assumption that a smaller workforce and the lack of legacy hardware to support would allow it to undercut competitors on price, leveraging the commoditization of components to compete with major brands. The company sought to differentiate its products by utilizing distinct Android distributions, hoping to set its handsets apart from the standard offerings of larger manufacturers. Despite these strategic ambitions, Wileyfox faced significant financial difficulties and entered administration on February 6, 2018. Following this collapse, the Santok Group announced a licensing deal on March 19, 2018, which covered the sales of Wileyfox handsets in Europe and South Africa, allowing the brand to continue existing in a limited capacity even after the original company ceased operations.
