OnePlus

OnePlus Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., doing business as OnePlus, is a Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong, and backed by Oppo, with which it shares manufacturing lines and parts of the supply chain. The company was founded on 16 December 2013 by Pete Lau, then a vice-president at Oppo, and Carl Pei, with the goal of building a flagship smartphone that delivered high-end quality at a lower price than rivals. The name and the "Never Settle" slogan capture that philosophy: one phone, plus better. The OnePlus One launched in April 2014, running a heavily customized CyanogenMod build, and became an instant cult hit in the developer community. Early units were sold through a controversial invitation system that limited availability and stoked demand, a practice OnePlus abandoned with the OnePlus 3 in June 2016. The company followed the One with annual flagship iterations (OnePlus 2 through 13, plus the budget-oriented OnePlus X and X2) and the budget-friendly Nord line, introduced in July 2020, along with a China-only Ace series, wearables, tablets and a line of TVs sold in India. OnePlus phones run OxygenOS, its Android-based operating system, which since 2021 shares a common codebase with Oppo's ColorOS after the two companies merged their hardware R&D teams. In March 2021 the company signed a $150 million, three-year imaging partnership with Hasselblad to bring improved colour processing and computational photography to the OnePlus 9 series and beyond. Co-founder Carl Pei left the company in October 2020 to found the consumer electronics brand Nothing, while Pete Lau continued as CEO. OnePlus expanded into new markets over the years, including Southeast Asia, Europe, North America and, in May 2024, Bangladesh, where it began local assembly of its devices. In July 2026, after months of speculation, OnePlus confirmed that it would withdraw from the United States and European markets and stop releasing new products there, continuing to focus on China, India and other regions. Existing devices were promised to keep receiving their previously committed software updates.
