Meizu

Meizu is a Chinese technology company headquartered in Zhuhai, originally established in 2003 by Huang Zhang as Meizu Technology. While the company gained initial recognition for its MP3 player business in the early 2000s, it transitioned into the smartphone market and became known for designing mobile devices that prioritize a simple and intuitive user experience. The brand has historically focused on creating smartphones that minimize the learning curve for users, allowing them to spend their time on content rather than navigating complex interfaces. The company’s corporate structure underwent a significant transformation in July 2022 when Geely Holding Group acquired a controlling 79.09% stake in Meizu Technology through its subsidiary, DreamSmart. This acquisition transferred actual control of the company to the Geely system. By March 2023, the two entities completed an organizational merger to form the DreamSmart Meizu Group, with Shen Ziyu assuming the roles of chairman and CEO. This strategic shift marked Meizu’s transition from an independent operator to a core component of Geely’s intelligent ecological chain. Consequently, the company’s business scope has expanded beyond consumer electronics to include smart car technology and extended reality (XR) fields. Today, Meizu’s product portfolio includes its flagship smartphones, the Flyme Auto in-vehicle system, and AR devices, reflecting its broader commitment to providing intelligent terminal experiences across multiple sectors.
