LeEco

Manufacturer Profile

LeEco, known in Chinese as Leshi Group, is a Chinese conglomerate established by Jia Yueting, the entrepreneur behind the video streaming platform LeTV (later rebranded as Le.com). While the group has diversified into a wide array of sectors including electric vehicles, real estate, wine, and film production, it gained significant recognition in the technology sector for its consumer electronics division. This division produced smartphones, smart televisions, and virtual reality headsets, positioning the company as a competitor in the global hardware market. The company’s smartphone business was part of a broader strategic push to expand beyond China into international markets, with operations extending to the United States, India, and Russia. However, this aggressive expansion strategy placed a heavy strain on the company’s finances. From late 2016 onward, LeEco faced severe financial limitations and struggled to secure new funding to sustain its diverse portfolio of businesses. By 2018, the financial pressures had forced significant restructuring. In September of that year, LeEco sold its remaining ownership interests in its electronics subsidiary, Leshi Zhixin Electronic Technology Co., Ltd., and its film production arm, Le Vision Pictures, to the developer Sunac. Following these divestitures, Le.com announced in October 2018 that it would not be sold and was instead exploring internal solutions to address its ongoing financial difficulties, effectively marking a withdrawal from the competitive smartphone market.
