Gigaset
Manufacturer Profile
Gigaset is a German telecommunications brand with a heritage that stretches back to 1900, when it was founded by Hermann Vollrath under the name Bad Salzschlirf AG. Over more than a century, the company underwent several name changes, eventually becoming Gigaset AG, a multinational corporation headquartered in Munich. While the parent company initially managed various industrial interests, the brand became widely recognized for its consumer communication devices, particularly after it evolved from the home and office division of the electronics giant Siemens. The modern identity of Gigaset is deeply rooted in the history of Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices, a subsidiary that was spun off from the parent Siemens corporation in 2008. Following this separation, the business operated under the Gigaset umbrella, which was fully owned by the listed holding company Gigaset AG. For many years, Gigaset established itself as a significant player in the European market, known for producing high-quality cordless DECT phones, baby monitors, and unified communications solutions for both households and businesses. A distinctive aspect of Gigaset’s operations has been its commitment to manufacturing in Germany. The company operated its own factory in Bocholt, a location that became synonymous with the brand’s history and production capabilities. This in-house manufacturing approach set Gigaset apart from many competitors who outsourced production, offering advantages in logistics, quality control, and service for its trading partners and customers. In the realm of mobile technology, Gigaset expanded beyond traditional landlines to offer smartphones and tablets, targeting specific market segments with devices that often emphasized reliability and communication features. Although the brand is most historically associated with its cordless phone innovations, it did enter the Android smartphone market, competing with larger global brands in the premium and niche segments of the European consumer electronics industry. The corporate structure of Gigaset underwent a significant transformation in recent years. In 2024, Gigaset AG sold its subsidiary, Gigaset Communications GmbH, to the Singapore-based electronics company VTech. This sale marked the end of Gigaset AG’s direct holding of the consumer electronics business, which had been the core of its operations for over a decade. Following this transaction, the brand and its product lines, including its mobile phones and communication devices, came under the ownership of VTech, ensuring the continuation of the Gigaset name in the market under new corporate stewardship.
